Dear NileMedia Reader: We have removed the alleged story of rape in Bethlehem by Israeli soldiers. It appears to have been part of a clever disinformation campaign to discredit Palestinian sources on what exactly happened in Jenin and Nablus. We have not been able to identify who initially circulated this, but we definitely suspect that it has something to do with Israeli attempts to cover up war crimes that are being carefully documented by international human rights groups. Our benchmark for verifying a story is to check our sources against the very credible British journalists reporting for The Independent of London and The Guardian. In this case, we have been unable to verify this story. In the future, we will be more alert in examining suspect sources of information.
