Thursday, August 9 on the History Channel History Channel Program “Cover Up: Attack on the U.S.S. Liberty” Thursday, August 9 from 8:00 PM - 9:00 PM (All time zones except Central where it airs at 7:00 PM. Check TV Guide for listings ) the History Channel as part of their History Undercover series hosted by Arthur Kent will air Cover Up: Attack on the U.S.S. Liberty. At the height of the Six Day War at 1:59 PM on June 8th 1967, two Israeli Mirage fighters followed by Super-Mystere jets as well as torpedo boats attack the USS Liberty, a lightly armed electronic reconnaissance ship in international waters 13 miles off the Sinai Peninsula. The attack rages for over an hour and when it is done, 34 American sailors have been killed and 171 injured. To this day the attack has been shrouded in controversy.... Deep into the attack, the captain and crew realized that the aggressor was their ally, Israel, who claimed they couldn't identify the ship as American.
